Building Surveyor Iona Foubister’s head for figures will prove a great asset when she takes up scoreboard duties at the Commonwealth Games next week. The Robert Gordon Universitygraduate, part of FG Burnett’s Building Consultancy team, is one of 15,000 volunteers who will help staff the games which kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony on Wednesday. Iona has the critical task of relaying times and scores to anxious athletes, thousands of SECC spectators and an international television audience of millions.

No stranger to sport, Iona is a black belt in martial art Tae Kwon Do, so her interests are well suited to the judo, boxing, weightlifting and wrestling, which are just some of the sports taking place at the SECC. Iona will complete eight unpaid shifts over a 10-day period and, like all the volunteers, has arranged her own travel and accommodation during the historic games.

She said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but was so inspired when I watched the Olympic Games in London that I wanted to get involved in some way with the Commonwealth Games taking place on my doorstep. More than 50,000 people applied to be a volunteer, so I am just delighted to play a small part in what should be a memorable sporting occasion. You had to list your interests before going for an interview, and I suspect with my Tae Kwon Do background that I have been placed at the SECC because it is hosting a wide range of contact sports.

“Working with numbers and figures isamust in my day job, so the scoreboard should not be too much of a challenge and I am really looking forward to the bonus of watching some of the world’s top sports stars in action.”

Chair and comfort furniture specialist, HSL, has agreed a 10 year lease on the former Blockbusters store at Unit 2, Haudagain Retail Park, Aberdeen.

It is the company’s third Scottish store and will provide a range of chairs, sofas, recliners and adjustable beds.

FG Burnett acted on behalf of landlord Haudagain Retail Limited in negotiating a 10 year lease on the 3,500 sq ft unit. Other retail park tenants include KFC, Carphone Warehouse and American Golf.

HSL chose the site because of ease of access at the busy location, which is on a main route to Bridge of Don and Aberdeen Airport, and offers ample free parking for visiting customers.

FG Burnett will support Wooden Spoon activities in Aberdeen and Glasgow, and will be the main sponsor of the charity’s annual north east Scotland dinner at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen on 22 May. FG Burnett director, Jonathan Nesbitt, who serves on the charity’s North East Scotland committee, said: “The Aberdeen branch does a lot of excellent work in assisting mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children who are deserving of our help and support as can be seen in the very worthy projects we have supported over the past few years. A £400,000 upgrade to Unit 2, managed by FG Burnett, has been completed for Plumbing & Hygiene Services (PHS) which has agreed a renewed 10 year lease on the redeveloped facility. The unit previously measured over 16,000 sq ft and this was reconfigured and resized to facilitate PHS’ requirement. With construction completed over 27 weeks, Hermes Real Estates permitted PHS an adequate migration period, ensuring seamless business continuity for the occupier. Stephen Ellis, Asset Manager at Hermes Real Estate, said: “The smooth transition and completion of the refurbishment of the unit at Anniesland Business Park has limited the impact to trading for PHS and has afforded them an excellent unit, refurbished to meets their needs. This is in line with our occupier-led approach at Hermes Real Estate.” Ross Sinclair of letting adviser FG Burnett, said: “We are delighted to have retained PHS within Anniesland Business Park and their long term commitment is testament to the quality of the estate and the landlord’s ability to react to occupier’s specific needs. The facility has been delivered on time, within budget and with minimum interruption to PHS’ business operation. “It is an exciting time at Anniesland at present as we have just completed the refurbishment of Unit 1 to provide 5,000 sq ft with a similar sized secure yard, located at the entrance to the estate. Otherwise, a broad range of options are available from 1,000 to 17,500 sq ft within a prime located fully secure environment.” David Cobban of Savills, who represented PHS, added: “Anniesland Business Park is an established industrial location that offers strong transport links and good quality accommodation to suit the needs of our client. We are therefore pleased to have agreed a deal which secures their prolonged stay at the park and this new position offers improved prominence.” Angus Forbes of FG Burnett acted as Contract Administrator and CDM Co-ordinator for the refurbishment. He said: “Hermes Real Estate has also now instructed FG Burnett on the redevelopment of Units 3 and 4 to provide facilities of 3,000 and 17,500 sq ft. It is envisaged that the works will commence during the summer with completion aimed at early 2015.” [post_title] => Successful Refurbishment Ensures Business Continuity At Anniesland Business Park [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => open [post_password] => [post_name] => successful-refurbishment-ensures-business-continuity-at-anniesland-business-park [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2017-02-01 13:32:24 [post_modified_gmt] => 2017-02-01 13:32:24 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => http://fgburnett.co.uk/?p=3251 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) ) [post_count] => 7 [current_post] => -1 [in_the_loop] => [post] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 3975 [post_author] => 20 [post_date] => 2014-08-22 15:40:01 [post_date_gmt] => 2014-08-22 15:40:01 [post_content] =>
