2017/2018 Business Rates Update – Transitional Relief

Aberdeen City Council (ACC) will issue new annual rates bills this week, based on new Rateable Values. National Transitional Relief (NTR) announced by Derek Mackay, Finance Minister, in February this year will not be automatically applied. An application will have to be lodged by any rate payer who qualifies for the Relief. The position regarding a local transitional relief package for Aberdeen City remains unclear as we understand communications are still on-going between ACC and the Scottish Government.
Aberdeenshire Council are likely to issue rates bills before the end of this month. Local Transitional Relief will be applied to these bills, where applicable, however, NTR will not be. Again, any qualifying rate payer will have to submit an application for the National Relief.
