Surveyor - Business Rates & Compulsory Purchase
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated Surveyor to join our Business Rates and Compulsory Purchase team, based in Aberdeen and covering a wide range of clients across Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging and varied rating work, advising occupiers, landlords, and developers across the commercial property sector. The role offers an opportunity to work in our compulsory purchase advisory team, negotiating compensation claims with local authorities across Scotland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional advice on business rates across a range of property types.
- Prepare and negotiate rating proposals & appeals with Assessors and the Scottish Tribunals in Scotland.
- Advise clients on compulsory purchase procedures and statutory rights, including negotiating compulsory purchase compensation claims.
- Carry out rental analysis, inspections, valuations, and reporting in line with RICS standards.
- Represent clients in discussions with public authorities and professional bodies.
- Keep up to date with rating and compulsory purchase legislation and developments, particularly in Scottish law and policy.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and help grow the business.
Requirements:
- MRICS qualified in a relevant surveying role.
- A Trainee Surveyor working towards the APC with experience in rating will be considered.
- Experience with the Scottish business rates system including knowledge of rating law and practice.
- An interest in compulsory purchase and negotiating compensation claims is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of valuation techniques and commercial property markets.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- A proactive and commercial mindset.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland.

Maintenance Operative
About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Maintenance Operative to join our Commercial Property Management Team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and upkeep of our commercial properties. This hands-on role involves carrying out routine maintenance tasks, conducting compliance checks, and liaising with tenants to ensure smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fire Safety & Compliance
- Conduct weekly fire alarm tests and document results.
- Organise and assist with scheduled fire drills.
- Test and maintain emergency lighting systems.
- Carry out minor repairs and basic DIY tasks, including plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
- Assist with property inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Ensure communal areas are safe and well-maintained.
- Act as a point of contact for tenants regarding maintenance concerns.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and coordinate necessary actions.
- Provide excellent customer service to ensure tenant satisfaction.
- Ensure all maintenance work adheres to health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular property inspections and report hazards.
- Support the wider property management team in maintaining a safe environment.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Experience in a similar maintenance role within commercial property management (preferred).
- UK Driving Licence
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general repair work.
- Understanding of fire safety procedures and compliance checks.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
